Joan Sahlgren

Senior Director of Public Relations

Joan joins P+PB with over 25 years of experience in public relations, communications and special events. She’s worked in the corporate, private and non-profit sectors in addition to teaching as an adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Relations and Marketing at Northern Virginia Community College. Joan is the former Vice President of Communications for First Book and worked with Lynda Johnson Robb, children’s literacy advocate and public figure. She was Nordstrom’s first Capital Region Public Relations Director and has an extensive background in promotional, image building and fundraising events.

Joan holds her Masters of Business Administration, with honors, from American Public University and three Bachelor of Arts degrees, with honors, in Speech and Communications, English and Fine Arts from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. She is currently the Executive Director of the National Home Library Foundation and serves as a member of Northern Virginia Community College Marketing/eCommerce Curriculum Advisory Committee.

She’s a former Girl Scout Cookie Chair with first-hand experience of having a living room full of boxes of cookies and an enthusiastic adviser to her daughter’s cheerleading squad on the proper design of paper banners for sports teams to run through. She is the reigning ‘rock, paper, scissors’ champion of her household, where she and her husband have raised four “nearly grown” children.
